DESIGN – SUPERVISION OF WORKS – TESTING

DESIGN

The “Guidelines for the suitability for the use of double-twisted meshes - September 2013 edition”, drafted by the Superior Council of Public Works, Central Technical Service, attributes to the double-twisted mesh a structural function within the sector of soil protection, and intends to suggest referential criteria on the specific peculiarities of this piece of equipment, in compliance with the D.M. dated 14 September 2005 - “Technical Standards for Building activities”, after revised and newly issued on 14 January 2008 with the wording “New Technical Standards for Building Activities”. The Guidelines, which specifically introduce specific requirements for the Manufacturers, also regulate the activities related to the management of the aforementioned activties, beside the restrictions and requirements reported in the document. The building activities are to be carried out in accordance with the national regulations, including NTC 2008.

ACCEPTANCE OF MATERIALS
ON THE BUILDING SITE

The acceptance of the materials, in addition to the conformity checks and the complete documentation required in accordance with NTC 2008, can be submitted to specific testing, upon request by the Works Supervisor, to be carried out at the laboratories (as referred to art.59 del DPR 380/2001), in wire and mesh samples, according to the indications stated in the “Guidelines for the suitability for the use of double-twisted meshes”, drafted by the Superior Council of Public Works, Central Technical Service.

ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTATION

Every supply of equipment provided by manufacturers, distributors, and importers has to be supported by the Declaration of Conformity/EC provision and the related EC labelling (issued on the basis of a ETA or a Certificate of Suitability by the Central Technical Service). These documents usually include the following information: - type and commercial standards of the product (identification, use, etc.); - particular conditions related to the use of the product (for example, dispositions on how to use the product in particular conditions, etc.); - size and technical features (dimensions, mesh type, mechanical aspects, wire diameter, zinc coating type, nominal resistance of the mesh and related Guidelines); - name of the Manufacturer; - production plant; - identification of the independent and authorized certification body; - conditions and validity period of the issued documents. Moreover, attached to the commercial documentation, the following pieces of information have to be included: - name of the company where the product is delivered; - name of the place where the plant is located; - supplied quanitities of material; - details of the EC labelling and related ETA of reference (Certificate of Technical Suitability for Use).

LABELLING

Each product is packaged by the Manufacturer and must be detectable through the applied label clearly reporting the Manufacturer name, the production plant and the production lot number, the technical characteristicts related to the different types and performance of the material, the reference to the Certificate of Technical Suitability for Use, or the details of the EC labelling and related ETA.

INDICATIONS ON TESTING

In addition to the requirements of the existing legislation, the testing of the artefacts or items exploiting the wire mesh technology, must include the conformity checks and the complete documentation required as stated in the Superior Council of Public Works Guidelines. These could be verified to the discretion of the Tester, on the basis of possible test controls on wires and meshes. The test performed on double-twisted meshes must refer to the project indication as for the rock fills, their siting and compaction modalities, and to the links among the different pieces of equiment used.
