MULTIPLE CELL-TYPE GABIONS IRPID

THE PRODUCT

Gabions are box-shaped units made out of double-twisted hexagonal mesh, widely used to reinforce and protect road, railway and airport infrastructures, and also to coat banks and canals. The modularity of the gabions allows to reach unparalleled versatility in implementing further works (actually, the gabions perfectly match other building units which use different building techniques). Gabions are easy to assemble and locate, besides boasting high-quality features, such as: - drainage properties, which is the ability to keep water behind the facility in question, thus mitigating one of the instability factors of the soil and lowering the costs for extra-drainage measures; − deformability, which is the ability to adapt to the uneven and multiple changes of the land, due to the passing of time and unexpected solicitations of the ground. The supporting frames inside the gabions cannot be considered as simple works, since the presence of the double-twisted mesh makes the frame reinforced, thus able to absorb both any compression and traction solicitations. Moreover, the gabions are widely used during building works to mitigate the environmental impact, and are to be listed among the frames supporting the recovery of plant life unfortunately damaged by the human activity. Up to date, gabions are considered as the best mix between structural needs and environmental needs (differently from those works made out of concrete); also, they can be mixed with the vegetation and perfectly fit in the surrounding environment.
